Woman finds $15,000 walking to work

What would you do if you found $15,000? Just lying on the ground. No name. No address. What would you do? I'm not sure I'd have the heart to do what Diane Gordon did.

You see, Diane walks 3 miles to work everyday at the grocery store.

In the dead of winter. In Detroit.

Some days it would get so bad, she'd have to stop in at a gas station to warm up before finishing her walk to her mobile home.

It was during one of these stops that she saw a ziploc bag… with $15,000 inside.

In that moment, someone could have said "Manna from heaven! You needed a car. This is God's gift to you to help you in your time of need. And what reason is there to be that much cash in a shady ziploc bag? Drug money? It is Detroit, after all. And I've been without a car for a year since my last ride broke down. I need this…"

I mean… Someone COULD come up with a story like that...

Instead, Diane immediately called the police. They were stunned at her honesty. Who returns a bag of cash? But she just wanted to help get the money back to the owners.

As it turns out, there was a very reasonable explanation for why this amount of money was just sitting there. Nothing nefarious like a drug payoff or anything like that. The money actually belonged to a newlywed couple about to head off on their honeymoon. What a way to start a marriage, right?

The wife of one of the officers was so moved by the story that she started a gofundme for Diane to help her get a car. And it blew up… the "Friends of Diane" raised $82,675.

"I’m floored," Gordon added. "I mean, I didn’t do anything special."

Now Diane no longer walks to work, as she is the owner of a brand new Jeep. She is also getting repairs done on her home she badly needed, and is walking away with a good chunk of change leftover.

She might have passed up an opportunity to hold onto a bag of cash she could have really used, but by doing the right thing Diane ended up with an even greater return.
